Word of the Week  >  GOT ON THOSE TRAVELLING SHOES?

by Joyce Sibthorpe

I found myself singing a song:

“I walk by faith

Each step by faith

To live by faith

I put my trust in You”

This song was popular in the 90’s, and made famous at a gathering in Wembley Stadium when thousands of enthusiastic Christians gathered together to celebrate Jesus. As this song was sung, dancers accompanied the song carrying an enormous pair of trainers and encouraged faith as we prayed for the nation and nations.

Today the Holy Spirit asked me some questions. He narrowed down his questioning, asking me to write down exactly what I was in faith for him to do in several areas of life.

Jeremiah 17 tells of two options – trusting in man (i.e. yourself) or trusting God (i.e. faith in his promises) the outcome of each will be very different. It is easy to become passive, to complain to God, plead with him, as if by doing so you might twist his arm! Or even moan about the difficult situations of life – without expecting change. This is not faith.

God wants us to remind him of things he has promised and to exercise faith in his ability to do more than we can ask or imagine.

So get on your “faith boots” – keep walking, keep believing. Father God responds to faith and faith grows like muscles, by exercising. Today, be specific, write out your own faith statement, “I am believing you to do …such & such … in my personal life, for my children, in my work, my finances, my church, my nation.

Years ago I did something similar. I cut out egg shaped pieces of paper – on the front I wrote the name of each of my children – on the reverse I wrote promises I was “in faith” to see hatch in the life on that particular child.

God is faithful – he always responds to faith. Exercise your faith today. Review the things that have yet to be fulfilled. Ask God for a renewed faith in His ability to act on your behalf.
