When the road is rough and steep, keep your eyes upon Jesus
He alone has power to keep, Fix your eyes upon Him.
Jesus is a faithful friend, one on whom you can depend.
He will keep you to the end, fix your eyes upon Him
The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said: "It is essential in these days that you keep your joy level up and overflowing. From joy comes strength. Keep reflecting on what I have done for you – what I am doing around the world, as well as in your own circumstances. Let thanksgiving be on your lips and heartfelt praise for all I am, and all I am doing.”
If you focus on need – you will be needy. If you focus on sadness and lack – you will be sad and downhearted……and so on.
It’s good to focus on what Jesus is doing and remember all he has done. I recall a time when I was feeling rather flat and sorry for myself. I remembered that one of the psalmists expressed similar emotions in the Psalms, but then chose to remember what God had done. He needed to get his focus off himself and his circumstances and as he did joy and strength returned. Read Psalm 42 and verse 5 in particular, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him my Saviour and my God.”
At the time I was being tempted to be inward looking and downcast I felt the Lord prompting me to write a psalm of my own. I began to remember God’s goodness to me right from birth to the present – doing this changed my focus and the result was joy renewed strength and hope.
Do this today, and you will experience afresh the love and strength of your Saviour Jesus
