Word of the Week  >  CREDIT CRUNCH

by Charles Sibthorpe

The words ‘Credit Crunch” seems to be on everyone’s lips at the moment. What should this mean for us as Christians?

One very practical step we have taken as a Church at Living Waters is to run the CAP Money Course.  Through taking the course, folk attending are helped and encouraged to face up to budgeting and living within their means, and are also shown a cash-based system that allows them to take control over their finances.

When things are financially difficult it is very possible – to stop living by faith – to stop giving – to fail to live in thankfulness  – to believe that we are being abandoned by God - and to have a complaining and disgruntled attitude.

Here is what the Bible has to say in answer to all those potential pitfalls:

Philippians 3:19 says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

Proverbs 11:24-25 says, “One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another witholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 37:25-26 says, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.”

Philippians 2:14-15 says, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation.”

God is faithful and even though we may be going through difficult times, He will not let us down.
