Word of the Week  >  TIME PLANNER or CHRIST

by Charles Sibthorpe

We all seem to be short of time. Being “stressed out” is a phrase we hear constantly. Why are we all under such pressure, not able to achieve what we want, or have adequate space and rest? Is it because the wrong person is planning our programme?

Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ, I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20  If we truly believe those words, and have chosen to live them, then we will hand over the sovereignty of our lives to Christ!

You may say, “My life is outside of my control.” No, that is not true. We all have 168 hours per week, if we spend 56 hours sleeping, 40 hours at our daily work, that still leaves 72 hours that we can chose to use in any way we want. If you travel an hour each way to your work, that only uses another 10 hours, so you have at least 62 hours to spend as you like.

Now if “Christ lives in me” why not consult him about your use of time, on how you plan your programme. Paul did it. The Holy Spirit stopped him from going to the province of Asia, but directed him to respond to the call to Macedonia. (Acts 16:6-10)

In Hebrews 4:9-10 it says, “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rest from his own work, just as God did from his.”

When we stop planning our own programme, or being pressurised by others to do what they want us to do, we could ask Christ to show us how to live our lives according to his plan.

Matthew 11:28-29 in the Message is fantastic, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

So do you want to rely on your time planner or “BlackBerry” – or Jesus?
